The Yamaha C40 is a full size classical guitar. A modest budget no longer means putting up with a second-rate guitar, as the Yamaha C40II ably demonstrates. The Yamaha MEP4 is a powerful and very flexible MIDI event processor. It can be programmed to modify MIDI data in many useful ways, including creating keyboard splits of up to four channels, filtering certain MIDI messages, transforming one type of MIDI data into another, and even creating delay effects. The MEP4 contains four internal processors, which can be routed in any combination to its four programmable outputs. In 1986, critics called it the most flexible and powerful MIDI signal processor available today. The MEP4 allows any MIDI signal to be modified in virtually any way. Data can be split into different MIDI channels and sent to independent MIDI OUT terminals, for example. A MIDI message can be transformed into another message: for example, transform a pitch bend value into a modulation message. Notes can be transposed on a specified MIDI channel up or down by any amount. The MEP4 is even capable of delaying MIDI signals to create a variety of echo effects. Delay and transpose can be combined to create automatic arpeggios. All of these controls can be done through a modern DAW, it's true, but having a box with a well-defined set of available edits seems like a very attractive option for creativity.
